Our Village of Joy
In August 2008 Milly finally found a suitable environment for our children and was able to transfer them out of the bleak daily grind of the Diepsloot Township to their new home near the Lesedi Cultural Village northwest of Johannesburg. The main objectives were to make our Village of Joy a place where violence as well as alcohol and drugs related abuse are replaced by devoted care and a ray of hope on the horizon which makes every day worth living.
It requires people like Milly who to bravely venture into such a mammoth task. In the absence of secure financing and in full trust into the help from above and the arrival of donations she defied all initial problems which seemed never ending; leaking roofs, no room furnishing, dilapidated sanitary equipment, defective water tank, dangerous electric wiring, earlier combatants who were unable to bear the initial workload and left ... Milly's unflinching faith in our joint mission and the inflow of donations in cash and kind ultimately made it feasible to master these problems and to convert the Village of Joy into a safe and pleasant treasure trove which sends out of rays of security and which raises hope for a better tomorrow.
